According to a Konami UK blog, "Metal Gear Solid V" developer Kojima Productions has partnered with ESL so the highly-skilled "Metal Gear Online's" players can start competing professionally and earn big money in cash prizes. As the blog said, "We're proud to announce that Konami have partnered with ESL - the world's largest esports organisation - to launch an official Metal Gear Online Global Championship!"

Further discussing about the "Metal Gear Online" or MGO opportunity, the blog has mentioned that regular "Metal Gear Online" tournaments will happen monthly from Dec. 1 through Feb. 29, 2016 in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia/Australia. To begin with, there will be an allocated amount of $1,000 per competition for every region. This may not be as big as the thousands or millions of dollars of prize money at stake in events like DOTA 2's currently running Frankfurt Major but it is a good start.

Beside the prize money, the players can look forward to earning points that determine the player's standing on ESL's worldwide rankings for "Metal Gear Online." It would be a great honor to be on top of the ranks. So for those who are interested to join the tournaments, they can sign up via the official tournament page.

"Metal Gear Online" comes as a free extension of Kojima's "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" that is available to all platforms. Similar two games "Counter Strike" or "CrossFire," "Metal Gear Online" is played between teams in 16- or 12-player lobbies. "Metal Gear Online" has many gameplay modes but as to which will be utilized in the ESL hosted tournaments, details are yet to be revealed.

"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" with which "Metal Gear Online" comes for free was released on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in September 2015.
