Exec helps family biz make music, money

Mar 7, 2016 - 09:15 AM

Jon Everett is controller for Ted Brown Music, a third-generation family business based in Tacoma with statewide operations, and a finalist for 2016 Financial Executive of the Year. He joined the firm when their father's death left sisters Whitney Brown Grisaffi, CEO, and VP Stephanie Brown Howe, in charge 12 years ago.

"Stephanie and I utilize Jon not only for the financial side of our business, but to help keep the management team thinking about the bottom line," Grisaffi wrote in her nomination. "Jon helps keep us from running too far astray (and) we rely on him for his honest opinion and as a tie-breaker for our partnership."

An up-to-date C.P.A., Everett supervises the headquarters office staff of five, while watching financial performances by the entire 150 Ted Brown Music employee team in six  retail stores. He is described as thorough and precise, but without taking himself too seriously.

"He even has a great sense of humor," his CEO said, "especially, as we tell him, for a C.P.A."

Jon Everett is one of 10 finalists for 2016 Financial Executive of the Year, with the awards being presented at a special luncheon on Tuesday, March 22nd, at Pacific Grill Events Center in downtown Tacoma. Ticket information is at this link.

Financial Executives of the Year is a program produced by Business Examiner Media, with sponsorship provided by Heritage Bank and Moss Adams.
