A.M. Roundup: More money, more poll problems

Good morning! If ever there were a day when the temptation to pull a Ferris Bueller gets too strong to resist, this could be it: high 70s and low humidity. I won't tell if you won't. The Major League season's second half commences tonight tomorrow with the Mets in Saint Louis, the Yankees hosting Seattle and Boston facing the Angels in a West Coast game.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo will be making an announcement in the Bronx this morning, and will speak at a Bronx County Democratic Committee dinner tonight. Incidentally, so will NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, which could be interesting.

On to the headlines:

Cuomo pulled in almost $5.2 million in the first half of the year, bringing his campaign war chest to $12.7 million. The governor found less to cheer about in his favorability numbers, which took another dip — below 50 percent — in the Siena poll released Wednesday. Still, voters find more in common with Cuomo than they do with de Blasio. (TU)

New Yorkers, 64-28 percent, support the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on same-sex couples' right to marry, according to a new poll released Thursday morning by the Siena Research Institute. By a 57-26 percent margin, they agree with the Court's second ruling upholding Obamacare. (CapCon)

State lawmakers are adding their voices to local officials and environmental groups calling for General Electric to expand its billion-dollar dredging of Hudson River PCBs to include more of the river and the Champlain Canal. (TU)

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and other advocates have asked Cuomo to take a more active role as the Public Service Commission moves forward with its overdue study of the state's telecommunications system. (TU)

Dannemora escapee David Sweat is out of the infirmary at Five Points maximum security prison. He will face formal disciplinary charges and likely criminal charges stemming from his escape — though some are asking: What's the point of prosecuting someone who's already serving a life sentence? (TU, WSJ)

Meanwhile, it looks like the three-week manhunt was pretty good for North Country communities' bottom line. (Press-Republican)

Dean Skelos' recent troubles have taken a toll on his campaign fundraising. But if you'd like to help with his legal bills, the website skelosfamilylegaldefensefund.com is happy to accept your contributions. (CapNY, Newsday)

Citing safety concerns, Sen. Chuck Schumer says he opposes a proposal that would allow larger tandem trucks on two-lane and four-lane highways in New York. (TU)

Greenhouse gas emissions from New York power plants are down and consumers are paying less for electricity, according to a report issued this week on the nine-state Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.  Meanwhile, some of the worst pollution offenders have seen profits drop. (TU)

Bloomberg looks at how hedge-fund money has stoked the fires of the Cuomo-de Blasio feud.

In the trial of state Sen. Thomas Libous, a lawyer's wife testified that Libous' drunken son hit on her at the law firm's 2005 holiday party. Former law partner Anthony Mangone testified that the senator asked the firm to hire his son and help conceal that his son was also being paid by a lobbying firm. (GNS)

"John Sampson is predisposed to tamper with witnesses and tamper with evidence like a fish is predisposed to swim," said a federal prosecutor in closing arguments at the state senator's trial. (NYT)

Which presidential candidates' campaign filings show the most small donations? Which get the most from super PAC's? This New York Times chart has all the answers.

Donald Trump wants everyone to know that his net worth "is in excess of TEN BILLION DOLLARS" (the all-caps are his). New York voters, it seems, are not impressed. (NYT, CapNY)
